COURSE SUITABLE FOR:
This course is designed to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to apply crop pesticides using a hand held applicator in accordance with recommended safe practice. This course is a recognized benchmark programme for Environmental Protection and the fulfilment of the training requirements under the EU Pesticide Directive. Successful completion of this programme will enable learners to progress to higher awards.
COURSE AWARD:
Hand Held Pesticide Application -QQI Level 5 -(5N0731).
Approved training as a second provider contracted to O’Dwyer Safety Services Ltd.
COURSE DURATION:
2 Days instruction, Self-directed workplace practice and 1 day assessment Learners assessment will involve a combination of examination and skills demonstration.

COURSE PREREQUISITES:
Learners will be required to have basic skills in literacy and numeracy. Participants should be proficient in reading, understanding information, such as area, calculations and solving practical problems in the use of equipment. Please inform West Cork Safety when booking of any particular learning concerns or special needs. West Cork Safety will endeavour to address those learner profiles and meet any learner deficits which may involve such as assistance with exams and practical demonstrations.
VENUE REQUIREMENTS:
A suitable external ground area for the use of knapsack and a washing area. Room suitable to seat the training group comfortably (with tables /desks if possible) and a Whitewall or projector screen available.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
Develop skills and knowledge covering the requirements of current pesticide use legislation
Identify and select appropriate nozzles, carry out machine preparation and calibration.
Operate the equipment in compliance with current legislation and codes of practice.
Clean equipment and dispose of unwanted pesticides and containers
Apply pesticides safely and efficiently with a Hand held applicator
Set machine flow rate for specific product and carry out calibration
Complete pesticide peruse environmental risk assessments and interpret pesticide safety data sheets and labels
Identifying and rectify faults and recognize conditions when spraying is inadvisable.
Complete pesticide used documentation requirements and detail pesticide record sheets.
Comply with pesticide Health and Safety controls including the use of Personal Protective Equipment
