COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Learners who successfully complete this course will :

  • Acquire knowledge of workplace safety layout,
  • Safe access and egress to workplace areas,
  • Authorised areas, first aid locations, emergency exits and assembly points.

Understand the importance and methods of hazard identification

  • Understand the term “hazard” and list typical hazards
  • Participate in discussions about hazard identification methods
  • Recognize hazard signage in the workplace

Develop an awareness of the essential role of health and safety procedures in the workplace

  • Emergency Procedures (Fire / Evacuation /Accident Procedures)
  • Safe Manual Handling Procedures
  • Hygiene practices
  • Protective Clothing & Equipment Procedures
  • Safe Working Procedures

Acquire skills to participate in their workplace fire management systems

  • Identify fire exits, fire detection and fighting equipment locations ,types of fire extinguishers and their uses
  • Demonstrate the use of a fire extinguisher and checking of alarms

Acquire skills to participate in their workplace accident procedures

  • Accident procedures, accident reporting and accident prevention

Understand the importance and role of health and safety legislation

  • Identify Employee responsibilities
  • Identify the role and purpose of Safety statements and risk assessments
